ziziphus jujube common seed
#A2426A
Ziziphus jujube
Jujube
Ziziphus jujube
A mid sized deciduous tree rarely found in the US.  Blooms in the spring are yellow and are followed by delicious red fruits that can be eaten raw or cooked to make breads, jellies and cakes, or dried, pounded into a powder and used to make 'kochujang', a fermented soy paste.  Jujube  has been touted as a remedy for decreased stamina and to treat liver disorders, and to aid digestion.  The trees prefer well drained soils in full sun, but they are very adaptable and can grow in a wide range of soil types.  They do not like to be moved when established, so choose a spot with plenty of room.  Hardy to -20F (-28.8), they will fruit in cooler summers, but will bear their best in locations with very warm summers.  Produces fruit in 3-4 years from seed.    Hardy to -20F (-28.8);  height: 60ft.
