Casuarina cunninghamiana - Australian River Oak, She-Oak, Beefwood, Australian Pine, Creek Oak

Evergreen tree native to Australia, member of the family Casuarinaceae. They make excellent avenue trees in warm regions and are well suited to planting in maritime areas, as they withstand salt water well and are of special importance along riverbanks and sandy areas to stabilize the soil and prevent erosion. They are adaptable to alkaline soils as well. Growth is rapid and can be invasive, so care is needed in planting. The trees bear small cones about 1/3 inch in diameter and obtain a height of 70-110ft. Sometimes called Beefwood due to the extremely red wood.
