White blooms, small, but very fragrant, blooms appear in January/February, followed by red fruit in the summer. Young twigs are purple, maturing to brown and the plant is deciduous, losing its leaves in the fall. A tough native variety to grow in many conditions, it is a native of China which migrated to the US in the 1800's and has become naturalized in many parts of the country.   Tolerates wet or droughty soils, hot sun or full shade. Works as a hedging, or in containers.   Hardy to -20F (-28.8C); height: 8ft.

Large deciduous shrub native to Korea and Manchuria with dark green somewhat shiny leaves and white blooms, fading to pale yellow that produce small red berries in the autumn.
